A per-graft rate is a unit price. Unit prices are only useful when both sides agree on the unit.
That is where cost comparisons quietly fall apart. Two clinics quote rates, you take the lower one, and your bill arrives larger because nobody examined the number that rate was multiplied by. Pricing a hair transplant in Kolkata is mostly a question about the count.
A Rate Without a Count Is Not a Price
You cannot compare rates on their own, and nobody should ask you to.
A low rate attached to a generous estimate can cost you more than a higher rate attached to a careful one. Hair transplant clinics in Kolkata advertise the rate because it is easy to understand and easy to undercut. Your count decides what you actually pay, and a person sets it using judgement before anybody multiplies anything.
So treat every quoted rate as half a sentence. The other half is a number you have not been given yet.
Ask How the Graft Number Was Reached
An estimate is a measurement and a hair transplant in Kolkata target, and you are entitled to both.
A surgeon arrives at your number by measuring the area to be covered, deciding what density that area needs to look natural, and judging what your donor supply can spare. Ask which of those three drove your figure. Ask what density is being aimed for at the front compared with the crown, because those are deliberately different and a single flat number across the whole scalp suggests nobody measured anything.
If the answer comes back as a round number with no reasoning attached, you have been quoted rather than assessed.
Check Whether You Are Being Quoted Grafts or Hairs
This one catches people out, and it is the simplest trap for you to avoid.
A graft is a follicular unit, and a follicular unit naturally carries one to four hairs. So a clinic quoting you hairs rather than grafts can hand you a number roughly twice the size for the same surgery on your head. Neither figure is dishonest by itself. Setting one against the other tells you nothing.
Put it to both clinics in the same copyright: is that grafts, or hairs. Then you are comparing like with like.
Know That the Technique Changes the Count
The method chosen affects how many usable grafts your donor area yields, not just how they come out.
Strip harvesting and individual extraction draw on the same donor area in different ways, and the yield a surgeon can safely take from you depends on your density, your scalp laxity and how the donor zone is expected to age. A plan that maximises grafts today can leave you short later, which is why the largest number is not automatically the best offer.
Ask what is being taken from you now, and what is deliberately being left where it is.
Compare Two Quotes by Multiplying, Not by Rate
Do the arithmetic yourself before you sit in front of anyone.
Take each rate, multiply it by that clinic's own count, and put the two totals side by side yourself. Then look at what each total covers and where each count came from. If one clinic wants a third more grafts than the other for your head, that is a difference in assessment, and you want to understand it before it turns into a difference in price.
On QHT's page covering hair transplant cost in Kolkata, the count and the estimate are described as something you receive in writing once your scalp has been examined, with the rates themselves published a click further on. That is the order you want everywhere: examined, counted, then priced.
Questions About Graft Numbers
What if the count changes on the day?
Settle that before you book. You want to know who authorises an increase, what rate applies to it, and whether you are asked first.
Two clinics quoted counts a thousand apart. Is one wrong?
Not necessarily. It usually means different density targets or different views of your donor supply, and both should be able to explain theirs.
Should I just take the highest count for better coverage?
No. Grafts are finite and once spent they are gone, so the right number is the one your donor area can afford across a lifetime.
Get the Count in Writing Before the Rate
Ask for your number, the unit it is counted in, the density it assumes and the reasoning behind it, on paper, before anybody discusses money with you.
A clinic that can produce all four has examined you properly. A clinic that leads with a rate has told you what it charges, which is a different thing from telling you what your surgery will cost.
